Preschool Week 13 (January 4-8)

Our theme this week was New Year and Seasons.

  • We began talking about honesty – “Always telling what is true and right; not lying or deceiving.”
  • We listened to the CD from www.BriteMusic.com on this topic. It seemed to make some impression on them as we talked about the girl in the story who tried to tell the truth all day long, even when she had to confess to the meanest man on the block that she broke his window with her ball.
  • We learned Colossians 3:9a “Do not lie to each other.”

Our book list included:

  • If Jesus Came to My House, by Joan Gale Thomas – A little boy talks about what he would do if Jesus came to his house as a little boy his own age and size. He would share his best toys, favorite foods, rocking chair, etc. Then he explains how he can treat others just as he would have treated Jesus.
  • Farm Boy’s Year by David McPhail – Looks at the different things a farm boy in New England would do each month of the year.
  • Summer Is … by Charlotte Zolotow – Describes common activities, sights, sounds, smells, etc. from each of the four seasons.
  • And to think I saw it on Mulberry Street by Dr. Seuss – A boy walking home from school tries to think of something interesting to tell his dad about what he saw on his way home. He really only saw an old horse and wagon on Mulberry Street, but he came up with all kinds of outlandish things to make a tale that can’t be beat. But when his dad asks him what he saw, he ends up telling the truth.
  • Frog and Toad all Year by Arnold Lobel – Four stories about Frog and Toad in each of the four seasons.

Activities this week:

We didn’t do a lot of activities related to our theme this week. We did work on cleaning blinds and getting things ready for the baby (setting up the bassinet and folding baby clothes). We practiced telling the truth. And we started trying once again to get Heather potty-trained.

Some pictures from the week…

  1. It looks like you guys have been very busy getting ready for the baby. Cute pictures! I will have to ask Heather and Travis all about honesty. I like the variety in your book list.
